Whale watching in Hermanus
Hunted in the past for their bones and blubber by ruthless men, these stunning creatures are thankfully protected. They are slow swimmers and cannot always dive for long periods of time, making them easy prey, which is why they were named the ‘Right Whale’, the right whale to hunt. Read more »
African penguins in Simon’s Town
A lovely photogenic scene with three penguins walking onto the beach in single file. African penguins are also known as Jackass penguins. Together with ostriches, Jackass penguins are the only flightless bird species found in Africa.
African penguins in Betty’s Bay
This is a must see! The Betty’s Bay penguin colony. Situated at Stony Point, this is one of two mainland penguin colonies, the other being at Simon’s town. Usually penguins only nest on islands, which makes them harder to reach for their predators and for humans.

All material for planting and irrigation was donated, so was the labour. The harvest is used in a wine which is produced for free by sympathetic wineries. All proceeds flow back to the children. Read more »
Fairview in Paarl

Enjoy your lunch at the Goatshed restaurant. They offer cheese platters with cheese made from goats milk or cows milk from Jersey cows, bread and salads. Or visit Fairview’s wine and cheese tasting room. Read more »
