Taverna Erganos in Heraklion is a traditional Cretan tavern, established in 1986. I sat outside on the covered upper floor terrace. For lunch I enjoyed a variety of vegetarian dishes. Lovely grilled vegetables: eggplant, zucchini, oyster mushrooms and peppers. Try the ‘Dolmakadia’: stuffed vine leaves with rice, onions, carrots, tomato sauce, zucchini, olive oil and salt.
Another typical Cretan specialty is the ‘fava’, broad bean puree topped with olive oil and green herbs. For dessert: sweets, refreshing watermelon and raki….
Greek cuisine is much more than just ‘souvlaki’ and ‘tzatziki’. That’s what the owners Georgia (chef), Michalis and their son Vasilis like to prove to their guests. When you are in Heraklion be sure you don’t miss this taverna with its wonderful traditional Cretan cuisine and friendly owners! erganos.gr
