In the wake of the Great Flu Epidemic of 1918 an orphanage was built by the Robertson community for the children that where left orphaned and destitute. In 2003 the same community planted a vineyard on the grounds of the orphanage. The orphanage is still in use, but a lot of the current residents are no longer orphans but are from broken homes.
All material for planting and irrigation was donated, so was the labour. The harvest is used in a wine which is produced for free by sympathetic wineries. All proceeds flow back to the children.
