During a holiday on Bonaire, Marwin and Dimitry, both from the Netherlands, fell in love with the small Caribbean island. They decided to move and start a hotel there. In 2012 they opened Villa Eco and Villa Eco Deluxe and they have just launched Renaissance at the Sea.
All three establishments serve their guests and visitors a 100% organic breakfast, lunch and dinner. This makes them the only accommodation in the Caribbean to accomplish this. I had a lovely lunch at the luxurious Renaissance at the Sea and as a bonus got to enjoy the stunning view.
Sourcing al the organic ingredients for my lunch, an omelette with vegetables, salad with a wide variety of seeds, a glass of fresh orange juice, coffee and bread with cheese and meat, is quit cumbersome. Dimitry explained to me that they fly in small amounts of eco products, like cheese and wine, from the Netherlands via commercial flights. The oranges are from an organic farm in Chilli, the pineapples originate from Costa Rica, the goat products are from Aletta’s Semper Kontentu, if they are available, and they grow their own bananas, mangos and coconuts.
And on top of that they clean the villas with eco products, the soap in the bathrooms is natural and locally made, and for their swimming pools they use collected rainwater without any added chemicals. villaecobonaire.nl and renaissancebonaire.com
